And now it’s time for another Wellness 101! How to stick to your New Year’s Resolutions. Presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network. Another year has begun and for many of us this means it’s time to make some changes in our lives with some new year’s resolutions.
Unfortunately new year’s resolutions are much easier to make than to keep. As a matter of fact nearly half of all New Year’s resolutions are abandoned by the end of January alone. So if you’re tired of coming up short with your resolutions then it’s time to start fresh with these simple steps.
Step 1. Be realistic. Probably the biggest mistake most people make when setting resolutions is having unrealistic expectations. For example many people want to lose some unwanted extra poundage but get upset when it doesn’t happen overnight.
Try setting smaller goals on the way to a much larger goal so you can see your progress along the way. Step 2. Stick with it. According to the experts it takes 21 days for a new activity to become a habit and approximately six months for that habit to become part of who you are.
Change is certainly not easy it takes time and consistency so be patient and stay the course. Step 3. Reward yourself. This does not mean overindulging just because you’ve lost a few pounds but no one likes to work for free.
So just be sure that whatever you choose to treat yourself with does not contradict your resolution. Thanks for watching. Starting a New Year’s resolution is a great way to start the new year. Now chances are you may slip up once or twice along your journey but dwelling on it won’t help you achieve your goal.
